To say that I love this recipe would be a drastic understatement. Serve up with granola or porridge on a crisp Autumn morning.
Spiced Autumn Pears
Ingredients
- 4 ripe yet fairly firm pears
- 4 cups of water
- ⅓ cup honey or fresh honeycomb
- ⅓ cup sugar or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 star anise pod, broken in half
- 1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
- 1 thumb sized piece of fresh ginger, sliced
Instructions
- Peel the pears and slice them in half from top to bottom, leaving the stems intact. Remove the core of each pear half by scooping out the center with a spoon.
- Add the honey, sugar/maple syrup and water to a medium sized saucepan and bring to the boil. Stir until the sugar and honey are completely dissolved, then add in the cloves, star anise, cinnamon stick, ginger and pears.
- Turn the heat down to a simmer. Cover and cook for 20-30 mins, or until the pears are soft and plump.
- Place the pears and liquid to a container and refrigerate overnight. (You can eat the pears immediately if you like, but they will have a deeper flavour after steeping overnight in the syrup.) The next day you’ll be ready to relish in the goodness of a warm winter’s dessert or breakie.
