Whats better than wine on a winter’s night? Wine mixed with spices and served warm, of course. Here’s our tried and tested recipe for a homebrew mulled wine with a hint of herb.
Homebrew Mulled Wine
Ingredients
- 10 cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 star anise
- 1 roughly grated nutmeg
- 2 cups of water
- 1 handful of fresh cherries
- 2 thick slices of orange including the peel
- 1 apple, roughly chopped (skin on)
- 1 bottle of fruity red wine, Merlot is our fave
- Add in either thyme, rosemary or lemon myrtle if you’ve got it growing in your garden
Instructions
- Put everything, except the red wine and star anise, into a saucepan.
- Bring to the boil and let it simmer away on a medium heat for 5-8 mins until the water has just about evaporated.
- Add the wine and the star anise, reduce the heat and let it all warm through for 5 mins.
- Decorate with fresh herbs and serve with a side of fireplace.
